September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and the St. Johns County Public Library System is doing something pretty cool to celebrate. They’re partnering with local businesses throughout the county to offer special discounts to anyone with a library card.
I love what libraries represent in our communities. Sure, they lend out books, but they’re so much more than that. They’re places where people come to learn, connect, and find support. The St. Johns County library system truly understands this – they help residents access a wide range of resources, from educational materials to essential services, creating a vital hub for both personal growth and community development.
Debra Rhodes Gibson, the St. Johns County Library Director, put it perfectly: “There are endless possibilities with a library card. Whether you’re a student or a business owner, our library staff can help you. We aim to build community and sustain relationships by keeping our patrons’ needs at the forefront. We have something for everyone at every branch or through our online services. And your library card can unlock all of it.”
What’s really exciting is their “Community Connections” discount program. They started this last year with 34 local business partners, and it was such a hit that they’re bringing it back bigger than ever – now featuring over 60 local businesses! All you have to do is show your library card (whether it’s brand new or you’ve had it for years) at any participating business during September to score exclusive deals.
If you don’t have a library card yet, getting one couldn’t be easier. It’s completely free for anyone living in St. Johns County, and it opens up access to way more than you might expect. We’re talking bestsellers, DVDs, audiobooks, CDs, plus 24/7 access to their online library where you can check out e-books, read The New York Times digitally, stream movies and music, or dig into research for work or school.
