Discover & Recover St. Johns County, a recovery community organization serving the St. Augustine area, is celebrating its two-year anniversary this month after opening its doors in March 2024 to provide education, peer support, and practical resources for individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.

What Discover & Recover Does

The organization offers peer recovery support services, community support linkage, and Narcan training and distribution. Its mission centers on the idea that recovery is achievable when people have access to community support, education, and the right resources. Since opening, the organization has worked to create an environment where those struggling with substance use disorder — and their families — can find connection, reduce stigma, and access help.

Brock Birtolo, Project Lead at Discover & Recover St. Johns County, reflected on what the two-year mark means for the organization and the community it serves. “Two years ago, we opened our doors with a commitment to meet people where they are and provide a supportive environment where individuals and families can find the help they need,” Birtolo said. “Substance use disorder affects all walks of life, and our goal remains the same: to be a source of education, support, and hope — and to demonstrate that lives can be saved through what we do, including Narcan training.”
